EMBRACE FAMILIES - INSPIRE CHILDREN - ENRICH COMMUNITIES

Our vision is to provide high‑quality early learning and care that nurtures growth through strong partnerships with children, families, and the community.
At the University Infant Toddler Centre (UITC), we believe that early learning and care experiences shape a child’s lifelong health, well‑being, and development. Our program is built on respect, responsive practices and contemporary early learning philosophies that honor multiple perspectives on how children grow and learn.

Since 1982, we’ve provided high‑quality care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Operated by the Michener Park Education Society, the UITC is a non‑profit, registered charity dedicated to supporting families and building bright futures.
We are an early learning and child care community where children grow through nurturing, consistent relationships and play‑based learning experiences.

We believe that children’s experiences are enriched by the knowledge, presence, and active participation of their educators. Our team draws on strong theoretical foundations in child development to design environments that support children’s care, play, learning, and overall development.
We value highly qualified staff, lifelong learning, and continuous quality improvement. Our program exceeds the requirements within Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Regulations for educator certification and educator‑to‑child ratios.
The UITC offers early learning and care for infants through to preschoolers (children from 1 month to 5 years of age).
Our centre includes eight individual classrooms, two gross‑motor rooms, and two large outdoor playgrounds—each intentionally designed for safety and to enrich children’s active, play‑based learning experiences. Play is at the heart of every high‑quality early learning program, supporting children’s emerging foundations in literacy, numeracy, social–emotional development, physical health, executive function, and self‑regulation.
Curriculum experiences grow from children’s interests and from what educators know is meaningful, developmentally appropriate, and possible for each child’s learning and growth.
Our program curriculum is grounded in FLIGHT: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework.

Infant
Our infant program is flexible and responsive to each child’s unique schedule. Feeding, sleeping, play, and care routines follow the infant’s cues, with many opportunities for warm, one‑on‑one interactions. Daily gross‑motor play, outdoor time, child‑led exploration, and educator‑facilitated experiences are thoughtfully woven around each infant’s individual needs.

Toddler and Preschool
Toddlers and preschoolers experience predictable yet flexible daily routines that include play, gross‑motor activities, outdoor time, meals, and rest. Child‑led and educator‑guided experiences blend literacy, STEM, the arts, and physical activity to foster communication, self‑regulation, and a sense of identity, while play nurtures curiosity, creativity, and problem‑solving.
